Jayne Mercer-Smith - I believe that it is always unacceptable for a child or young person to experience abuse of any kind and I recognise my responsibility to safeguard the welfare of all children and young people, by a commitment to practice which protects them.

 I recognise that:

·      the welfare of the child/young person is paramount.

·      all children, regardless of age, disability, gender, racial heritage, religious belief, sexual orientation or identity, have the right to equal protection from all types of harm or abuse.

·      working in partnership with children, young people, their parents, carers and their agencies are essential in promoting young people’s welfare.

  The purpose of the policy:

To provide protection for the children and young people who receive teaching from Jayne Mercer-Smith.

 I will seek to safeguard children and young people by:

·      Valuing them, listening to and respecting them.

·      Adopting child protection guidelines provided by individual schools and/or the local county council through procedures and a code of conduct.

·      Sharing information about child protection and good practice with children, parents, colleagues, staff and volunteers.

·      Sharing information about concerns with agencies that need to know and involving parents and children appropriately.

·      A current DBS certificate registered with www.gov.uk/dbs

 School/College Setting

Jayne Mercer-Smith will work closely with the SENCo or identified responsible person for Safeguarding to be aware and follow the Child Protection Policy, Data protection policy and Health and Safety requirements of the school. If, in a session, a child discloses information about themselves or another person being hurt or being in danger, the session will be stopped and the DSL within the school will be spoken to immediately.
