Children and Teachers

I currently teach mindfulness to children in schools, using The Present or Paws b curriculums along with general wellbeing and breathwork. My approach and delivery differs depending on the children and their circumstances and needs.

I run individual, small group and class sessions.

These can run alongside or after therapy sessions, after consultation with the therapist.

They are fun and informative sessions, learning about the brain, how we notice feelings and emotions, how we can make choices to look after ourselves. We learn about why we feel stressed and have worries, and how we can deal with these when they arise.

Teachers

Teaching is a fast paced and demanding profession which can cause high levels of prolonged stress. There is a wealth of research showing that mindfulness training is beneficial to maintaining the wellbeing of teachers and can prevent burnout.

I have experience of:

  • training teachers in mindfulness skills for their particular setting

  • training them to deliver mindfulness to the children in their class

  • developing a whole school approach.

  • I have conducted a research study into the effects of incorporating mindfulness into classrooms and a whole school environment, showing highly significant positive results.

Schools

I teach tailored curriculums of The Present, Finding Peace In a Frantic World, MBCT-L and Mindfulness for ADHD to students seeking support through mindfulness skills and techniques. These can be combined with general wellbeing and breathwork.

Students today face various modern challenges, including digital distractions that make focusing harder. They also deal with exam stress, competition, and anxiety about future opportunities. Mindfulness offers numerous benefits for students grappling with these issues.

Mindfulness can help manage stress, enhance cognitive flexibility, develop social and emotional intelligence, and address perfectionism-related struggles, which can lead to self-criticism, self-doubt, and fear of failure.

The sessions are kept relevant to the needs of students, learning about the brain and the neuroscience behind feelings, behaviours, emotions and physical reactions. We learn how we can train ourselves to notice what is happening in the moment to inform our choices and to look after ourselves better. We learn about how manage overwhelm and take care of ourselves, while reaching our goals. We discover how the brain generates worries, and how we can deal with these when they arise.

Colleges
